About Arise and Shine Uganda
Arise and Shine Uganda (AASU) is a non-governmental organization working in Uganda. It has a mission to create sustainable community development through the provision of quality education to all - male or female, rich or poor, young or old, able-bodied or otherwise. It has four main projects:
Children's Care Home (Jinja) - cares for 42 orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children. The goal for all the children is reunion with their families once the home circumstances improve, but those without relatives willing and able to take them back are either adopted, go into foster care, or go to Kibuye village and study at the Nursery and Primary School.
Nursery and Primary School (Kibuye village) – currently over 600 students from the local community and the AASU Children’s Care Home.
Community Outreach (Kibuye village) – income generating activities for the women of Kibuye including tailoring and jewellery-making.
Community Education (Kibuye village) - teaches members about topics including: HIV/AIDS prevention and care, family planning, reproductive health, nutrition, and adult English literacy.
This fundraiser will target the building of new pit latrines (washrooms) for the 650 students. Currently there are only two pit latrines being used by all the students and staff. Funds raised will go directly toward the construction of a new building with multiple latrines.
